There is no single standard fee for private tuition in Israel. A tutor’s quote can depend on the subject, the learner’s level, the tutor’s experience, the lesson format and the goal you are working towards. Before comparing options, check what the lesson includes and agree on duration, travel, preparation and cancellation terms.

What shapes a tutor’s quote
The subject and learning goal are central. Ongoing help with schoolwork, focused revision, deeper study and preparation for a particular exam call for different kinds of planning and resources. Within the same subject, the student’s current level, specific gaps and pace of learning can also affect how a tutor structures the work.
A tutor’s experience, familiarity with the relevant curriculum or exam format, and ability to explain ideas clearly may all shape the quote. A profile alone cannot tell you whether the teaching approach will suit the learner. Ask how the tutor will identify priorities, what they suggest doing first and how they will review progress.
Lesson length, location and format
Private lessons may take place at the student’s home, elsewhere or online. If the tutor travels to you, ask whether the location or travel time changes the terms. Online tutoring can make scheduling easier, but it is not the best fit for every learner or task; some students work better when they can solve problems together on paper or use printed material.
Find out how long each lesson lasts and whether the quote is based on a session, a block of time or an agreed series of lessons. A longer session is not automatically better if the student struggles to stay focused. Check whether preparation, marking work between lessons or brief follow-up feedback is included or treated separately.
Different subjects, different aims
For maths tuition, the level of the syllabus, the kind of problems involved and the amount of solution review can affect how lessons are planned. Our guide to private maths lesson costs looks at those subject-specific factors. For English, be clear whether the priority is conversation, grammar, school support or preparation for a test; each calls for a different lesson plan.
Psychometric exam preparation may involve practice with the exam format, answering strategies and independent work between sessions, as well as teaching the material. Ask whether the tutor has experience with the kind of preparation you need and how they will track progress. Choose for the learner’s actual goal rather than relying on a subject label alone.
How to compare options and agree terms
Before lessons begin, explain the learner’s goal and current level, say which format works for you and ask how the tutor would approach the work. Clarify what is included, whether you need to obtain learning materials and whether marking homework is covered. This makes it easier to understand why quotes differ and to compare like with like.
Agree on payment, cancellation and rescheduling arrangements, and whether you can contact the tutor between lessons. If a series of lessons is offered, check whether the terms change, how long the arrangement remains valid and what happens if a session needs to move. After the first lesson, consider whether the plan was clear, the pace felt suitable and the feedback gave you practical next steps.
